Currently, California authorities are investigating the incident, and according to the Palestine Legal advocacy group the student is receiving treatment at the hospital. The initial suspicion is that it is a hate crime, according to a CNN report California Highway Patrol.
Since the start of the ongoing war on October 7, at least five possible hate crime incidents at Stanford University have taken place.
There are demands from Stanford to immediately release an alert to notify the students of the incident, making it clear that it was a hate crime. Moreover, the university has not provided any special resources for Palestinian or Arab students amid ongoing events, and repeated hate crimes reported on campus.

Relevant to this is the subsequent hate crime committed against the 6-year-old Wadea Al Fayoumi who was stabbed to death by his neighbor Joseph Czuba on October 14.
Czuba currently is facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two counts of a hate crime last Monday. He remains in jail without bail.
